TECHNICIAN

By MASTERCRAFTSMAN, TECHNICIAN, leader of his generation at 3

As a racehorse, TECHNICIAN was one of MASTERCRAFTSMAN’s best sons. He begins his stallion career in 2022 at Haras de Montaigu.
The magnificent grey horse was bought €40,000 as a yearling by Dermot Farrington at Goffs Orby Sale. He was trained by Martyn Meade at Manton Estate for owner David Caddy.
TECHNICIAN was leader of his generation at 3 over longer distances winning G2 Prix Chaudenay and G1 Prix Royal Oak, as well as LR Prix Ridgway over 2000 m.
3rd to champion SPACE BLUES on his only start at 2, TECHNICIAN won his maiden over 2400m at Leicester after which he was sold to Team Valor. He then had a beautiful 3-year-old season where he was placed 2nd in a G3 at Sandown over 2000m before winning LR Prix Ridgway at Paris-Longchamp, still over 2000m.
After dominating older horses to win his first pattern race, the G3 Unibet Geoffrey Freer Stakes in England during the summer, he had a most successful autumn campaign at Paris Longchamp where he won in quick succession G2 Prix Chaudenay and G1 Prix Royal Oak, beating Call The Wind, Holdthasigreen and Way To Paris. Very few horses achieved the G2 Prix Chaudenay / G1 Prix Royal Oak double, one of them being the remarkable National Hunt stallion TURGEON.
TECHNICIAN distinguished himself at black-type level on all types of going. TECHNICIAN epitomizes the dual-purpose stallion. His sire MASTERCRAFTSMAN, whom he gets his grey coat from, was a true champion who won both G1 Irish 2000 Guineas and G1 St. James’s Palace Stakes, as well as the Phoenix Stakes and National Stakes.
MASTERCRAFTSMAN sired champions ALPHA CENTAURI, AMAZING MARIA, THE GREY GATSBY, KINGSTON HILL, A RAVING BEAUTY, TECHNICIAN, all G1 winners. His offspring include 17 G1 flat winners and 5 National Hunt grade winners among which METIER (Tolworth Novices Hurdle G1).
His dam AROSA was born on the same SADLER’S WELLS X DARSHAAN cross as GREAT PRETENDER.
DANEHILL DANCER, grandsire to TECHNICIAN, is the sire of JEREMY, who died recently but can be described as a National Hunt revelation, having sired no less than 8 winners over jumps.
