SHAMALGAN

It could be said that the brave SHAMALGAN has had a very interesting career as both a racehorse and also as a stallion.

Born in 2007 at the Haras de Granges, the son of Footstepsinthesand ex Genevale (Unfuwain) was sold for €80,000 as a yearling at Arqana. He was exported to the Czech Republic but came to France to run as a 2-year-old, finishing 3rd in the G3 Prix de Condé, and as a 3-year-old, finishing 3rd behind Lope de Vega in the G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains. At 4 he won the G2 Darley Oettingen-Rennen at Baden-Baden .
He was subsequently bought by Prime Equestrian for € 200,000, for whom he had a short but unsuccessful campaign in Dubai but went on to finish 2nd in the G3 Prix de la Porte Maillot the same year.
It was as a 6-year-old under the tutelage of trainer Xavier Thomas-Demeaulte that Shamalgan reached the pinnacle of his career. That year he won the LR Grand Prix de Bordeaux before taking the G1 Premio Vittorio de Capua in Italy later in the year.
SHAMALGAN stood as a stallion at the Haras du Lion in 2014 and 2015 but returned to training as a 9-year-old and finished that training year with a win in the Grand Prix de Prague.
He continued his cosmopolitan life as a stallion in the Czech Republic in 2017, a year that was concluded by his sale at the Arqana Breeding sale. His sale attracted much interest, particularly by his breeder Mathieu Daguzan-Garros who was outbid by Normandie Pur-Sang who bought him to stand at the Haras de Grandcamp.
SHAMALGAN’s results as a stallion mirror that of his racing career, as he has continued to improve with age. His daughter TOSKANA BELLE excelled on the racecourse in 2022 winning the G1 German Oaks before her departure to the US where she was 2nd in a G3.
SHAMALGAN had already produced the talented ANIMA ROCK, 2nd in the LR Critérium de Béquet, and AUDE, 2nd in the LR Prix de Grand Camp, and showed his versatility as a stallion with offspring FAN OF SEA (Prix du Bourbonnais G2 AQPS) and GNAFRON winner at Auteuil.
SHAMALGAN stands at Haras de Montaigu in 2023 alongside his friend DABIRSIM.
