Pedigree Notesprint

Out of a classic sire under both rules and a Listed placed mare, own-brother to a classic winner in Germany, NIGHT WISH combines in his pedigree the blood of the Chef de Race Sadler’s Wells and Monsun who are clearly the most influencial ancestors in European hurdle and chase races today. A genetic potential that should drive him to become soon a leading sire of jumpers, confirmed by his perfect conformation, his exceptional mind and his high quality racing abilities.

Notably, his sire Sholokhov has produced 2 classic jumpers and both are out of German bloodlines like NIGHT WISH : the six times G1 winner (including the Cheltenham Gold Cup) Don Cossack who is out of a dam by Königsstuhl (= sire of Monsun), and the G1 Prix Cambacérès and G1 Prix Renaud du Vivier winner Esmondo whose dam is highly inbred on Surumu (= damsire of Monsun). The duplication of KÖNIGSSTUHL or SURUMU is already a successful combination which could be applied to NIGHT WISH through LAVIRCO (genetic equivalent to Monsun), Alkalde or Surako for the first one, and through ACATENANGO (damsire of the Group winner Dell’Arca with Sholokhov) or LOMITAS (damsire of 2 NH Group winners with sons of Sadler’s Wells) to duplicate the second one.

The inbreeding on SADLER’S WELLS is a proven formula to get high quality jumpers, and has already generated 10 Group winners including 5 at the highest level. Il could be generated through MONTJEU (highly efficient when combined with Kalamoun) as well as with Galileo, King’s Theatre, Oscar, Old Vic, Poliglote or Kayf Tara. On another hand, Sholokhov is a half-brother to SOLDIER OF FORTUNE (Galileo) and HELIOSTATIC (Galileo) : the nick between NIGHT WISH and daughters of these two would therefore generate a very interesting twin inbreeding on Sadler’s Wells and on the mare La Meilleure, that one being already duplicated in 4×2 in the pedigree of Solar Focus, a G2 winner over jumps in Italy whose sire INTENSE FOCUS is another member of the immediate family of Sholokhov !

However, numerous positive inbreeding could be done with the main componants of the pedigree of NIGHT WISH. Of course, priority shall be given to NORTHERN DANCER, the number one ancestor about classic inbreeding under both rules (including 56 G1 over jumps in 4×4 or less !), and though through all the major lines of his dynasty including LYPHARD, whose nick with the Sadler’s Wells male line has generated 17 G1 winners over jumps including 8 with daughters of PHARDANTE, the excellent Roll On Has through VILLEZ, and classic winners Capivari and Souffleur through LINAMIX. Priority shall be offered to mares by MARTALINE (who is carrying as well Sadler’s Wells and Mill Reef), by AL NAMIX (bringing Nureyev) and by FRAGRANT MIX (dam by Shirley Heights).

The Sadler’s Wells male line has also produced 8 G1 winners over jumps with the blood of NIJINSKY II, and thus mainly through CADOUDAL. A nick illustrated by 13 Group winners included the classic Douvan, Fleur d’Ainay and Utopie des Bordes, which is therefore a major option with NIGHT WISH. The most promising matings could be got out of mares by SAINT DES SAINTS (damsire of champion Douvan), by KAPGARDE (grandson of Mill Reef) or carrying KADALKO in their pedigree. As an extension, ILE DE BOURBON (sire of Lagunas, damsire of champion Twist Magic) and NINISKI (sire of Hernando, damsire of classic winner Capivari) are surely offering strong guarantees of success with NIGHT WISH.

DANEHILL is as well a highly valuable option, considering his very high genetic affinity with Sadler’s Wells. He is as well often found in the pedigrees of the best performers of NIGHT WISH and Sholokhov female families, and is himself the damsire of the Listed winner over jumps Loxlade, a daughter of Sholokhov. We shall first think about DYLAN THOMAS, sire of flat classic winners Nymphea and Nightflower with the immediate Family of NIGHT WISH, or about DUKE OF MARMALADE who has sired the classic ace Nutan with this same damline. ROCK OF GIBRALTAR, sire of a stakes winner with a sister to Sholokhov, shall also be very welcome.

Last but not least, we shall underline the major success of the nick between three-parts brothers Sadler’s Wells and NUREYEV, for a combined inbreeding on Northern Dancer and Special already responsible for more than 500 black type performers including classic jumpers Bristol de Mai, Marsh Warbler and Tea for Two !

The fact that Kenmare can be seen in the bottom part of the pedigree of NIGHT WISH shall drive us to recommend the blood of HIGHEST HONOR, whose daughters have produced 2 classic winners over jumps (Garynella and Petite Parisienne), and both with the Sadler’s Wells male line. This shall qualify MEDAALY (grandson of Sadler’s Wells and damsire of the G3 winning filly Slowmotion with Soldier of Fortune), Dunkerque (carrying Blushing Groom and Nureyev), My Risk and Stormy River (both of them carrying Lyphard).

Among the numerous outcross solutions to get high quality performers with NIGHT WISH is featuring CARO, a very exciting option which could be applied through TURGEON (damsire of classic winners Punch Nantais and The New One with sons of Sadler’s Wells), and KALDOUN (second damsire of champion Grand d’Auteuil) or his son APRIL NIGHT (damsire of Bristol de Mai). Same comment about mares coming out for the LUTHIER line, responsible of 6 G1 winners over jumps with Sadler’s Wells sireline including 2 through MANSONNIEN (Boston Angels and So French), and about mares carrying the blood of DOM PASQUINI, a mating which has already produced 3 classic jumpers including Prince Oui Oui. We shall again mention SHARPEN UP (4 G1 winners over jumps with Sadler’s Wells male line), BERING, damsire of G1 Tolworth Hurdle winner Lingo and G2 Prix Amado winner Le Grand Luce with sons of Sadler’s Wells, and NIKOS (damsire of a G2 winner by Sholokhov).

The famous nick Sadler’s Wells x DARSHAAN has generated numerous G1 winners under both rules, including Maid in Japan and Zaiyad over jumps. We shall recommend DALAKHANI (damsire of Nichols Canyon), MARK OF ESTEEM (damsire of Chicago), and of course the entire SHIRLEY HEIGHTS male line with a priority to DASHING BLADE and his son LORD OF ENGLAND, both having sired black type performers with the dam of NIGHT WISH. Let’s add that the combination Sholokhov x Dashing Blade has generated 3 Stakes horses on the flat, L the Grand Steeple-Chase de Craon  twice winner Abakhan and the L Prix Achille-Fould winner Descartes. As a variant, the blood of MILL REEF shall be considered as one of the major options for NIGHT WISH, mainly through GARDE ROYALE who is the damsire of G3 winner and G1 placed Sweet Shock (by Sholokhov), and the already mentioned MARTALINE.

The classic nick Sadler’s Wells x TOP VILLE, responsible for Montjeu and Yeats on the flat, has also generated classic jumpers Apache Stronghold, Ballyoptic and Binocular, the first two being out of mares by UN DESPERADO and the latter being out of a mare by PISTOLET BLEU. This mating can also be found in the pedigree of several Group winners by daughters of Beneficial, Saint Estèphe and Sheyrann.

RAINBOW QUEST is another very promising option, notably through SPECTRUM (sire of 2 Stakes winners with the immediate family of Sholokhov). Rainbow Quest is himself the damsire of classic jumper Cinders and Ashes (a grandson of Sadler’s Wells), and the nick Sadler’s Wells x BLUSHING GROOM has generated 5 G1 winners over jumps including 2 through GROOM DANCER. As an extension, the mares out of the RED GOD sireline shall be highly appreciated, especially daughters of DENHAM RED (damsire of champion Ptit Zig).

MR PROSPECTOR, who can be more and more often found in pedigrees of G1 winners over jumps (4 of them are inbred on him in 4×4 or less, and 7 are out of the Sadler’s Wells sireline), shall get our favour, notably through MACHIAVELLIAN (damsire of 4 Group winners with Sadler’s Wells stallions). Finally, we shall recommend mares carrying the blood of HABITAT, whose parents Sir Gaylord and Little Hut are both featured in the pedigree of NIGHT WISH !
